Two shot in family feud
"What do you want me to do, smile?" asked William Allen Jones, Jr. as deputies led him into the Pender County jail Monday night.
That wisecrack came just hours after emergency workers rushed Jones' father, John Oakford, and his brother, Phillip Jones to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Investigators say William Jones shot them both following an argument.
It happened around 5:30 pm in the Rocky Point community in Pender County, near the intersection of Irwin Branch Road and NC Highway 133.
Investigators shut down the highway while deputies tracked down William Jones. Nearly two hours after the shooting, a Wildlife Officer found Jones 10 miles away. He was quickly apprehended.
Sheriff Carson Smith said the investigation is ongoing, and that authorities will continue questioning William Jones throughout Monday night.
Jones is being held at the Pender County Jail.
