DEADLY INNOCENCE
JOHNNIE BECK
Johnnie Beck's identical twin, Ronnie, was jumped and stabbed three times in the chest seconds prior to the attacker turning his insane rage upon Johnnie, and slicing off half of Johnnie's left thumb. Quick thinking Johnnie shot his and his brother's attacker in the chest while being assaulted with deadly force. This deadly fight took place in the parking lot of a Burger King in Whiteville, NC the evening before Thanksgiving 9 years ago. Johnnie Beck was charged with First Degree Murder because he fired twice to kill the attacker. Beck was later convicted of Second Degree Murder and has been denied appeal. He is currently serving a 12 year sentence. Ronnie Beck, the twin brother, barely recovered from his injuries.
The Brunswick Beacon reported on Wednesday, November 3rd, that District Attorney Rex Gore wants to overturn a conviction of a man charged with child rape. Sylvester Smith, 53, has been in prison for 20 years. On Friday, Smith won his motion and the case was dismissed. Now the news is international. Over 179 news organizations are carrying the story. Perhaps there is hope for Johnnie Beck. Smith was released because witnesses have come forward, Beck also has witnesses that offer new evidence. Both Beck and Smith have Rex Gore as District Attorney.
