Update:
Girl Featured in Pornographic Photos Found
May 14, 2005 1:02 p.m. EST
PENNSYLVANIA (AHN) -
A girl at the center of an international search after she was seen
in 200 sexually explicit Internet photographs - including more than
a dozen taken at a Walt Disney World hotel - has been found living
in a Pennsylvania foster home.Police reported Friday that the Russian-born
girl, now 11 or 12-years-old, was adopted by her abuser when she
was about five and brought to the United States.
Her adoptive father, Matthew Mancuso, was arrested in Pittsburgh
two years ago on federal child-pornography charges and is serving
a 15-year prison sentence."I think he should die in prison,"
said Lt. Matt Irwin of the Orange County Sheriff's Sex Crimes Unit.
"If his sentence is anything short of that, he should be prosecuted
here in Orlando."Orange County investigators entered the case
after the Toronto police Internet-porn unit, fearing the girl in
the images was still being abused, released some of the photos with
the child's face digitally removed. Among the photos, which circulated
on the Internet for more than three years, were several that appeared
to have been taken in a hotel room. Tips suggested the room was
at the Port Orleans Resort at Disney World.According to investigators,
the Disney photographs were taken when the victim was 7 or 8 years
old in the spring of 2000. The photos show she was raped in a hotel
elevator and in a guest room, each of which would be a capital crime
carrying a mandatory life sentence.Last month, authorities in Orlando
released images of a second girl who was not being molested but
appeared in photos that shared the same background. Irwin said Friday
that girl was the victim's neighbor and friend who accompanied the
victim and her abuser on a trip to Orlando. The Internet photos sparked
international outrage and more than 600 calls to Orange County investigators. What
Irwin and the Canadian authorities who started the investigation
did not know, was that an FBI Internet-pornography task force in
Pittsburgh arrested Mancuso in May 2003.
Investigators said Friday they are unsure whether the girl in the
Pennsylvania case is the same child photographed at the Disney hotel.
The victim seen in the photos at Disney had been in foster care
since her adoptive father's arrest.State and federal officials located
the girl after they found a match in one of several law-enforcement
databases of child pornography. FBI spokesman Paul Bresson in Washington,
D.C. said the FBI received information Thursday that connected the
Pennsylvania and Florida cases.

In their original forms, the pictures show the child being sexually
assaulted.Police have digitally removed the victim's image from
all of the photographs.
They hope that identifying the location of the assaults will help
them identify both the victim and the suspect.
Toronto police don't know if the images originated in the city,
but said they took up the case after finding the pictures repeatedly
in local child-porn cases.
"I would say, in the last two years, we've arrested about 70
or 80 people and I would say at least 50 per cent of them have different
pictures from this series," said Det. Sgt. Paul Gillespie.
"This is one of the most popular series on the internet that
pedophiles will save and trade with each other. This is like the
'must have' if you are a bad guy."
Forensic examinations suggest the photos were taken between 2001
and 2002 and involved a girl who was about nine years old at the
time.
The victim is thought to live in the northeast United States or
southeastern Canada, although Gillespie would not say what factors
led to that suspicion.
She is described as white with long, blonde hair.
Two-Nation Hunt For Sex Abuser
NEW YORK, Feb. 9, 2005
Authorities in Canada and the U.S. are working together to identify
a young girl, believed to be the victim of sexual abuse, whose pictures
have been on Internet child pornography sites for years.
In an unusual step, they're releasing a series of photographs, from
which the child has been digitally removed, in an effort to get
the public’s help.
CBS News correspondent Jim Acosta reports that the girl is believed
to be white, blonde and 9 to 12 years old. She is possibly from
the northeastern U.S or southeastern Canada and was abused by somebody,
possibly a relative or caregiver, who posted the photos on child
pornography Web sites.

Using the background in some of the photos, which have been on the
Web for more than a year, authorities have identified as the crime
scene one of the rooms in Disney World's Port Orleans French Quarter
resort. Disney officials and authorities in Florida's Orange County
are said to be cooperating with Canadian authorities in the case.
"We are in the middle of questioning staff that have been there
since that time period, going through logs, because we have a lot
of information on what the inside of the hotel room looks like,"
Sgt. Paul Gillespie of the Toronto Police Service told Acosta.
Officials said they took the unusual step of releasing the photos
in the hope that someone who was there at the time might recognize
the room and other locations at the theme park and perhaps lead
police to the little girl and the culprit. The pictures showed an
elevator, a fountain and a bed in a hotel room.
In an interview Wednesday on The Early Show , Marcy Forman, director
of the office of investigations for the Immigration and Custom Enforcement
Agency (ICE), said officials are worried about the child’s
safety.
"The faster we find her, the easier we could rest," Forman
said. "We're working diligently with the sheriff's office in
Florida and with the Toronto police department."
ICE is a division of the Department of Homeland Security which in
2003 started Operation Predator to identify, investigate and arrest
sexual predators. Forman said it had been cooperating in the case,
even before the crime scene was identified as a Florida hotel.
Why didn’t officials release a photo of the girl, even just
her face?
"In some instances, it helps to identify the victim,"
said Forman. "But in most instances, we want to protect the
privacy and the safety of the victim. That's why we are only releasing
the photos of the location we believe that the abuse took place."
Officials say more than 50,000 children are being used for Internet
pornography and so far only about 500 of them have been identified.
Toronto police reportedly has one of the largest and most sophisticated
child pornography units in North America. The girl came to the attention
of the then two-year-old unit in 2002.
