We weren't sure what we were seeing. Others were talking about the obvious black figure sitting directly behind the driver. Although it could be something set up in the window to hide the real passenger. Eve Carson.
In this blow up you can see what appears to be half a face.
We color enhanced what could be a white female's face in the backseat of the SUV believed to belong to Eve Carson. The Chapel Hill Police have not yet released the time of the ATM so we don't know if it is before or after she was killed. We have also heard conficting stories about whether or not the suspect was able to withdraw any of her money.
Update 8PM
The Chapel Hill Police Department released today an in store surveillance camera screen cap of the suspect entering a convenience store and using Ms. Carson's bank card. You will notice him wearing a large black coat and not his hooded grey jacket he had on in the earlier released ATM picture. This black jacket is many sizes too big, which could indicate that it belongs to someone other than himself. This may be the black object seen directly behind him in as he sat in the driver's seat at the ATM. His hair is pulled back. Chapel Hill police have been talking with various gangs asking for help. As of now there is no indication that there has been anyone in the local underbelly of human society that has come forward with any information that could help identify this suspect. Certainly there are people out there who know beyond a shadow of a doubt who this man is and are intentionally keeping quiet, perhaps even aiding this individual in his escape. Just because this happened in Chapel Hill doesn't mean that this killer can't be hiding out in Southeastern North Carolina. Keep your eyes peeled. There is a $25,000 reward.
This well wooded area just off of Franklin Street, a mile or less from downtown between the Mall and campus is where Eve Carson was found shot to death. It was at the intersection of Hillcrest Road and Hillcrest Circle. Certainly there are ATMs around the mall as well as at lest 4 or 5 convenience stores. The only strange thing about using this location for a planned shooting is that there is only one way in and one way out. It is a good location to kick a car owner out of the car to make your get away. I would imagine nearly zero vehicular traffic after 11 at night. Houses tucked back off the streets. No way to tell which way on Franklin the robbers went. And less than a mile from where she was most likely taken to use her ATM card. You know the robber wanted her with him when he withdrew money because he wanted to make sure she gave him the correct PIN. She screamed before she died. You have to believe the killer had already much earlier put his gun in her face in order to take control of her. By now she would have been less fearful of the sight of the gun. Yet something made her scream. Was she about to be sexually attacked? Did she see an opportunity to escape at the intersection and somehow jumped from the car, screaming for help? I doubt any of us will ever know. Only the people who were in that SUV knew exactly what happened and one of them is dead, murdered.
