Wilmington
Police Officer, David Hursey Retires in Style
Dave Hursey was presented with his
badge and gun by Chief Ralph Evangelous in a retirement ceremony
held in his honor. Hursey remarked that he is used to having his
gun and badge taken from him by the prior Chief and didn't know
how to accept such generosity from the new Chief. Those that are
familiar with this onetime head of the local PBA know how he blew
the whistle, loud and clear, against what he, and many other officers,
saw to be leadership problems within the department causing serious
morale issues and ultimately low performance in the department's
efforts to curb a sky-rocketing crime rate. It was partly because
of that stubborn, loud voice that City Council heard a public
outcry which led to Chief John Cease's termination and the hiring
of Chief Evangelous. Hursey retires from a disability received
while on the job and will miss his fellow officers as he spends
time fishing and hunting. When asked about future plans he mentioned
that he may attempt a run at a seat on City Council next election.
He says his passion to serve the needs of this community and the
officers that protect it, will drive the focus of his campaign.
The Blue Line wishes Dave Hursey all the best and thank him for
his brave service... and so what he left in a limo half as long
as a city block... he deserves a superstar's exit.
