OLD SHOWS

January 27th 2007 SHOW

You knew it was going to be a tough show when BOTH Benson's seem to be in a bad mood. Tre went off on a rant about the Dakota Fanning movie, Hounddog.

Second segment of the show we talked to Assistant District Attorney Connie Jordan about her legal interpretation of Hounddog. She straightened out a few misconceptions and defended her office's actions regarding the way the investigation into the allegations was handled.

The third and fourth segment covered crime news. Towards the end of the show Clem called in from a ditch.

Sound quality is poor.

December 9th SHOW

The December 9th show talked about the shooting death of 18 year old Peyton Strickland of Durham. Strickland was shot in the head by a SWAT team member whose bullet looks as if it traveled thru the front door prior to striking Strickland. Deputy Chris Long was fired according to a release faxed out on Friday around 4:30 PM. No explanation given as to why.

The deputies were assisting the UNCW Campus Police in the service of a search warrant at the residence of Mr. Strickland.

We talked the entire 2 hours about the incident, including segment 2 where we had Pam Lewis as our guest. Mrs. Lewis is the widow of John Lewis who was also shot and killed by the Sheriff's Office ERT in April 2005. She talked about the still unanswered questions she has about her husband's death. There were bullet holes in their front door. Lewis came outside to surrender but got spooked and limped back inside. When he exited the house again he was seen to be holding a black and silver item with a green ligh, which was believed to be a gun and was shot and killed. In fact it was a cell phone.

It was in the latter part of the third segment and the first part of the fourth segment that we took calls from our listeners.

The young man rapes her instead. This is an outrage and Tre let his feelings be known.

The third segment we talked about Gov. Easley's recently signed bill launching the Innocence Commission. The third segment we talked about one of Wilmington's most notorious drug dealers , David Crummy. Crummy was sentenced to 238 years in prison for destroying untold numbers of human lives by selling crack cocaine in the inner-city of Wilmington. Fourth segment was our opportunity to take a few calls.

JUNE 10th SHOW

The first two segments of the show Marc and I dedicated to the Wilmington Firefighters that courageously attacked the fire burning down our parents home. We called it the RED LINE RADIO SHOW. Marc's has experience as a firefighter, he was awarded the Certificate of Merit from the Town of Wrightsville Beach for the rescue of a fallen firefighter during the Doak Apartments fire.

The third segment of the show was all about the presentation to the Board of Commissioners. Marc presented a 200 page study of the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office Budget where it was found that the Sheriff's Office is the most inefficent sheriff's office in the State.

The fourth segment talked about Brunswick County Sheriff Ron Hewett's aggressive search for missing sex offenders which conflicts with the laid back tactic used by the New Hanover County Sheriff . NH County Sheriff Sid Causey called on the citizens to do the job. New Hanover County leads the State with missing sex offenders. The SBI sex offender website and found that New Hanover has 9 sex offenders that have failed to verify their address. Pender has zero. Onslow has zero, Columbus has zero, Dare County has zero, Brunswick 2, Gaston County 1, Orange County 4, Cumberland County 7, Wake County 7, and Charlotte's County Mecklenburg has 2, there are a total of 102 sex offenders that have failed to verify their address in NC, New Hanover County has roughly 9% of those.
Maybe the Sheriff 's situation is different than the other 99 counties. Then again maybe it is not a priority.
We discovered a sex offender that failed to verify his addr ess. He was registered in Pender County but lived in New Hanover County. He could have been arrested in New Hanover County for failing to register, however even after he was reported by a Wilmington Police Officer he was not arrested by the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office. A month or so later he was shot and killed in a shoot out as he attempted to rob a video poker place on Cinema Drive.
Our belief at Blue Line is that most sex offenders are capable of anything. If you can rape a woman, molest a child, you are more than likely able to commit any other crime on the books. These criminals are a danger to any community, the high incidents of recidivism warrants keeping a good eye on them even if it means knocking on a few doors. Good job Sheriff Hewett!

JUNE 3RD SHOW

The first segment of the show Marc and Tre both preached a bit from the Bully Pulpit. The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office budget request is for 30 million dollars. The Commissioners are contemplating raising taxes. Marc will address the Commissioners Monday afternoon about cutting the fat from the Sheriff's request to make up the 1.9 million shortfall.

our comments about the budget

The second segment continued with more discussion about the waste of taxpayer money by the Sheriff. He even laid down the gauntlet for any public debate about these and other issues regarding the Sheriff's Office. He called it the FLZ - Frog Leap Zone.

Marc's call for debate

Third segment began with an atta-boy to Wilmington Police Officer Adam Kopen who chased down a fleeing man after a routine traffic stop and arrested a man wanted in New York and who was a convicted sex offender. We also talked about the video poker shooting that happened at 17th and Market last Monday night. In this segment we covered a story about Nick Garrett and Governor Mike Easley and how an ethics violation may have taken place regarding the Southport Marina land deal. We also remembered our late grandfather's friend Hugh Morton.

Segment four began with a discussion about the Davina Buff Jones case. Officer Jones was discovered shot in the back of the head on Bald Head Island and there has been some controversy as to whether or not the gunshot wound was self inflicted. The SBI has labeled the death a suicide and District Attorney Rex Gore closed the case last week. We talked about Congressman William Jefferson and corruption, we also talked briefly about House Representative Thomas Wright. Wright was the sole vote against passage of the ethics bill. The show ended with heartfelt sympathy for Deanna and Greg Plocki over the tragic loss of their son Steven. Steven was one of those "good kids" , the kinda kid that avoided drugs, had bunches of friends, and was the son many wished they had. He is missed.

MAY 20TH SHOW

The first segment of the show Marc called in from I-40 talking about having a police escort. Funny. Not so funny was the topic of our a call in guest, Joanna Wright of Houston. Texas. Ms. Wright is the founding director of Hope4Kidz and she called in to talk about Kayla Allen. & year old Kayla died as a result of ingesting an pesticide poison and an anti-psychotic drug allegedly given to her by Carolyn Futrell of Onslow County. Futrell is out on a $20,000 bond and living in Wilmington, NC while she awaits trial for Capital Murder of young Kayla.

The second segment of the show talked more about Kayla Allen and Carolyn Futrell's attempt at gaining custody of her son. We commented that with such a low bond and by retaining custody of her son she would be a flight risk seeing how she will soon be on trial for her life.

The third segment talked about law enforcement. We discussed he new helicopter the Wilmington Police Department received for free by the federal government and how inefficiently the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office is being run wasting millions of taxpayer dollars.

The fourth segment talked about odds and ends, mostly just two tired guys rambling about much of nothing. Sometimes it is like that, we just run out of steam. Tre was recovering from a bout of food poison and Marc had just gotten in from an all night surveillance. Neither of them were prepared.

Last week's show was a repeat of the November 26th show about Johnnie Beck, you can listen to it by going to our archives.

NEXT WEEK'S SHOW will deal with New Hanover County Sheriff's Office Budget. The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office is one of the most costly Sheriff's Office in the State.

APRIL 1ST SHOW

The first segment of the show Marc apologized to the Wilmington Police Officers that were called to assist him in his attempt to regain property belonging to someone that asked for help. Even with 24 years experience as a law enforcement officer Marc admits he made a mistake that caused embarrassment. We talked about Speaker Jim Black and the lottery. Poked a little fun at a friend of ours and had a caller call in to defend her. A gigglefest resulted.

The second segment of the show talked about 500 pounds of marijuana seized by the Sampson County Sheriff. We also talked about illegal aliens entering the country. Illegals were arrested in the marijuana case. A caller called in to report that today on April 1st. Sean Hannity had been spotted being stopped by a sheriff Deputy at the intersection of MLK and Kerr Avenue. Marc got into the reported testimony of the Psychologist put on the stand to defend Darrell Manness, the convicted killer of Boiling Springs Officer Mitch Prince. Near the end of the segment a caller called in to give the listeners an update on Johnnie Beck.

The third segment focused on nothing but the allegations involving Duke Lacrosse team members accused of raping a North Carolina Central University student that worked as a stripper/escort at one of their parties. The accusations have brought gender, race and privilege issues to the forefront and has struck a nerve with us here at the Blue Line Radio Show. When a woman cries rape we all must pay attention. However no one has yet to be charged in this supposed crime and 40 some members of a Lacrosse Team are on national news and have thier faces plastered on wanted posters. There is a lot to this story and none of it is simple. While most of the underlying darkness about this story is the issue racism, there are constitutional and civil rights violations that may have been committed against the accused reminiscent of the Jim Crow era, only in reverse. We touched on it as best we could for a half an hour.

The fourth segment talked some more about the allegations and the ramifications should they be false allegations. Clem called in to ask about the lottery and said he traded tickets for moonshine. Talked some about the UNC basketball freshman Danny Green's father who was recently arrested for trafficking hundreds of pounds of cocaine. Talked about the 16 year old girls arrested for child pornography because they posted naked pictures of themselves on the MySpace.com website. We ended with an April Fools joke about daylight savings time.

MARCH 18th SHOW

The first segment of the show featured the Officer Down Ride, a fund raising effort for those in law enforcement and those firefighters that have died or were injured in the line of duty. The funds will be used to aid and assist the families of the victim. The wonderfully simple brain child of Bunky Bruce came about with a few phone calls to the right people. Most of the best ideas are the simplest ideas. Hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts gathered at City Hall in Wilmington after the rally to join in fellowship and for a chance to show off their ride. Chestnut Street was blocked off and a display of emergency vehicles lined for inspection. The new police pursuit vehicles stood out. These Dodge Chargers are the newest edition of the fleet and are a welcome addition to tool box used to fight crime. (they still need push bars)

The end of the segment Tre talked about his experience becoming familiar with the life and death of Harnett County Deputy John Strickland and read a touching letter from deputy Strickland's father, a retired Captain with the Harnett County Sheriff's Office.

Second segment talked about several crimes that hit the news this week. Goldsboro officer had a close call when a suspect wanted in a drug raid shot him in the chest. Fortunately the Captain of the drug task force was wearing a bulletproof vest which stopped the bullet from killing him. We also talked some about the autopsy report of David Wilson. Wilson has been identified by the Blue Line Radio Show as the prime suspect in the abduction and disappearance of Michelle Bullard from her friend's home in Lee County. We talked about a man convicted of triple murder, given three life sentences in the early 70's and is going to be let out of prison primarily because he is now in his 80's.

In the third segment we talked about a private investigator that when he caught a woman, he was investigating for adultery, the woman spotted him and took off after him along with her alleged boyfriend. The boyfriend is currently running for sheriff of Nash County and had called his daughter, a NC Highway Patrol Officer for help. The daughter/trooper stopped the private investigator causing a he said/she said controversy. We also talked about the CUE Center for Missing Person's upcoming National Conference.

The fourth and final segment of the show talked about Ethics in law enforcement. We heard from a caller at the end of the show that wished Marc would have run for sheriff even went so far as to say that he would write Marc's name ion the ballot.

FEBRUARY 18th SHOW

In the first segment of the show we talked about whether or not Marc will run for Sheriff against Sid Causey. Marc has stated for weeks now that that he does not want to allow Causey to run unopposed. Not looking forward to leaving the show to run what will undoubtedly become another painful campaign we begged someone to come forward, even promised to pay the $1,077 filing fee if we felt that they were qualified, but no one called in to toss their hat into the ring. Well no one except for Clem.

The second segment of the show we discussed the recent conviction of the habitual drunk driving illegal immigrant that killed Scott Gardner. We also discussed at the end of the segment the revelation published in the Wilmington Journal this week about how Speaker of the House Jim Black turned African American House Members such as New Hanover County's representative Thomas Wright against ex-Speaker Dan Blue with promises of prominent committee leadership positions.

In the third segment we talked a little about the conviction and sentencing of Kenneth Saylor who was stopped on his way back to a bar that he was thrown out of carrying a 12 gauge shotgun. An alert Wilmington Police Officer, Jean Marcel, confronted an armed Saylor on the sidewalk outside the bar and shots were exchanged resulting in a gunshot wound to Officer Marcel's foot. We also heard from Clem wanting to run for sheriff. At the end of the segment we discussed criminals.

The fourth segment of the show we discussed our attempts at gaining access to the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office Budget. Tre reminded the listeners that all the hoopla about Dick Cheney shooting lawyer Harry Whittingham on the Armstrong Ranch in Texas had little to do about the actual shooting and more about the lack of public access to the affairs of government. We heard from a caller about Marc running for Sheriff of New Hanover County.

FEBRUARY 11th SHOW

In the first segment of the show we discussed the outrageousness of an estimated charge by the County to deliver to the Blue Line a copy of the budgetary line items of the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office. We were quoted that the upfront fees were because of the man hours required to pull the budget off the computer. We were informed that the charges would be over $8,000. How is the average citizen supposed to know how their money is being spent if such material is cost prohibitive? Who has seen the entire budget of the New Hanover County Sheriff's Department? Who knows what vendor contracts there are? How much the county is being charged for services like weed eating, grass cutting, and car washing? All of these services are contracted out to private companies. Who is being paid to consult with the Sheriff? How much is being spent to train personnel and who is receiving this training? How much overtime is being paid and to whom is it being paid to? New Hanover County is paying over one million dollars more for the same health care services from the same insurance company that another County of similar size pays to cover their inmate's health protection. Why? We want to know and you should too. We also think the County Commissioners need to know prior to voting on the new budget and it's costly increase.

The second segment of the show dealt with various methods of corruption. Speaker of the House Jim Black's hearing in front of the State Board of Elections, a Sheriff that was recently convicted of misappropriation of funds and a woman that embezzled 1.5 million dollars from a mom and pop cabinet manufacturer.

We had as our special guest, a frequent visitor of the show, Assistant District Attorney Jon David. Jon David has announced his candidacy to run against District Attorney Rex Gore. ADA David spoke with us and answered a few calls in both segments 3 and 4.

LISTEN TO PREVIOUS SHOWS

FEBRUARY 4th SHOW

The first segment of the show began by discussing the overcrowding situation in Onslow County Jail. We also discussed briefly the court allowing Carolyn Ann Futrelle's bond to be reduced to $200,000. Futrelle is charged with the abuse and poisoning death of 7 year old Kayla Allen. She is on trial for her life and it is very curious of the court to allow such a generous bond to someone that may end up on death row. Ex-law enforcement office, Bill Nichols called in to offer his support for Judge William Gore. He recalled a time when he was investigating Judge Gore's brother in a gambling investigation and how Judge Gore did not stand in the way.

Segment two began with another of Tre's rants. This one had to do with why criminals do what they do, in particular why would famed Hollywood director Lee Tomahari dress up as a woman and offer sex for money on the streets of Los Angeles and why David Wilson would have abducted Michelle Bullard. We talked about the serial rapist caught by the Wilmington Police Department. We talked about the tendencies of unscrupulous defense attorneys that point fingers of blame anywhere other than their clients direction. Marc went off briefly about black on black crime and the drug situation that propagates most crime.

Our third segment welcomed Judge William Gore. Judge Gore spoke with us the entire 30 mins defending his position in regard to the sentence he past down to a man that pleaded no contest to killing his baby. Gore sentenced the man to one year probation. His defense of this sentence was a bit more complicated than the media would allow thus Gore being raked over the coals in the press all over the world. We will be publishing our take on this later this week on our website. But this segment is worth a listen because there are some key elements to this situation that allow a new perspective on his decision making process that led to the sentence he gave to the child's father, William C. Ullom.

The final segment was filled with calls from listeners that wanted to add their two cents worth regarding Judge Gore.

Next week's show will be our second anniversary of broadcasting the Blue Line Radio Show.

JANUARY 14th SHOW

The first segment of the show we talked about how Marc wants someone to run for Sheriff of New Hanover County so he won't have to do it himself. He said the Sid Causey should not run unopposed. That someone needs to hold him accountable for his embarrassing record including Gary Rummer, the rape of a jail inmate by jailer Norman Gattison, the abuse of taxpayer money by the giveaway of the Law Enforcement Center and the costly contract with Prison Health Services, the blundered arrests of Rev. Bullard, and Susan Taylor at the Department of Social Services (see the Sophie's Choice comment on the blog site) , the failed efforts to curb drug crimes, the failure to enforce the laws against the 50 or more video poker "speakeasies" and the ridiculous media photo opportunity of the removal of a homeless man living on county property that bordered the Cape Fear Country Club.

The second segment began with a commentary about apathy and a continuation of the Michelle Bullard missing person case in Lee County.

The third segment continued to talk about Michelle Bullard's abduction and included a call from CUE Center of Missing Person's Founder and Director, Monica Caison.

The fourth segment we heard from a blind caller that feared going to the door. Another caller wondered about the use of firearms for home protection.

Click on one of the four segments below to listen to the show in MP3 format. Be patient it takes a while to transfer. If you have a problem please let us know by contacting us.

JANUARY 7th SHOW

The first segment of the show we talked about how Marc is not going to run for dog catcher. We also talked about how Johnnie Beck has just received permission to join the work release program. We encouraged listeners to give Johnnie a job.

The second segment we talked about the armed abduction of Michelle Bullard and did a bit of arm chair quarterbacking regarding the investigation to point out that even though these sort of crimes are freak occurrences it is important to be well trained in case of such an emergency. Hard to do when training means the County Commissioners have to pay for it. Just as in all case scenarios there is a way to handle something correctly and a way not to handle it. The investigators got off to a shaky start but were quick to recover which shows how eager they are to solve this crime and how smart they are to adapt so quickly.

We began the third segment by talking about our suspect, a "person of interest", in the Bullard disappearance, David Wilson. Wilson is a convicted murderer who shot himself when a deputy approached him. Marc brought up an excellent point, how do we know Wilson intended to shoot himself. Couldn't he have led the deputy to his house so that they would be off the well traveled road? As a graduate of the FBI National Academy's 180th session and a 1996 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, my brother Marc has some intuition few possess and he finds it odd that Wilson would have intentionally shot himself, instead he believes that Wilson may have snagged the gun on his coat, trying to bring the barrel of the gun around in a secretive manner in order to kill the deputy thus gaining a few extra minutes in order to make an escape. It is a large unpopulated, rural area and it is not unrealistic to imagine backup taking less than 15 -20 minutes. For a man on the run, that would be a generous head start. He would have been able to hurry into his house, grab some things he might need, change cars and run. With North South highway I-95 20 minutes away and East West highway I-40 30 minutes away and twenty different directions to get to them, it would have been an extremely difficult task to cut him off and capture such a desperate man. Wilson was not an idiot, he was a criminal and thought like a criminal and he was capable of moving like a rabbit, remember his 1980 prison break. What is it Marc said about this? If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and poops like a duck, it sure as hell ought to be suspected of being a duck.

In the last segment of the show we talked more about Michelle Bullard. Johnnie Beck's father Donnie called in. Big Daddy called in to update us on how well the Chief of Carolina Beach is doing.

Every now and then someone will raise a question about Marc being so tough on the few members of law enforcement that drop the ball. He used examples of Hall of Fame athletes that fail to perform to expectations and how even they get called to task. It's called motivation.

Marc's comments to a caller regarding this.

DECEMBER 3RD SHOW.

In first segment of the show, we talked about how important it is to stay vigilant against crime. Many crimes, especially property crimes, can be prevented with a little common sense and by taking simple preventive measures. Statistics can show that a community is safe and yet you can easily fall victim to crime.

We were honored to receive a call from Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous. The Chief talked about the recent controversial report listing Wilmington as the second most dangerous place in North Carolina. (See 2004 SBI report) Yes, the City does have it's share of crime, any crime is too much crime, but according to the Chief the report lumped in crime happening outside Wilmington. Remarkable changes in patrol and in effective prosecution efforts have reduced crime dramatically in the past year.

Monca Caison of the CUE Center for Missing Persons called in on our third segment. We talked about her appearance on the Larry King Show. Monica was given the entire hour on Larry King, something no one in recent memory has ever done before. Because of the show, 623 families from all over the country called for help. At the end of the segment we received a call from Davina Buff Jones, the slain Bald Head Island police officer whose faulty investigation into her death still causes pain for the family.

The fourth segment dealt with the Supreme Court's decision to release inmates, who committed murder while a juvenile, from death row. We attacked the cop killer Kevin Golphin who was 17 at the time he killed North Carolina State Trooper Lloyd E. Lowry and a Cumberland County Deputy Sheriff David Hathcock.

NOVEMBER 26th SHOW.

The entire show was dedicated to the Johnnie Beck case. Johnnie has spent the past 9 years in prison for shooting a man that died seconds after attacking Johnnie and his twin brother with a knife. We had in the studio with us Johnnie's father, Donnie and mother, Linda Beck, Ronnie Beck, Johnnie's twin brother that was stabbed that night and calling in from prison, Johnnie Beck himself .

The first segment of the show introduced what happened the night of November 24th, 1995. Marc brought up one of law enforcement's rule in dealing with a knife fight. The 21 foot rule says that an attacker can reach you with deadly force in about 1.5 seconds within 21 feet. Kathleen called in and said that she has been threatened because of the things she has said in support of Johnnie Beck.

In the second segment Linda Beck talks about the community support. We talked about the eye witness, George Fairfax, that was never delivered to the defense by the police who was standing no more than 10 feet from the stabbings on that night. Johnnie Beck himself called in to tell what happened. We talked about the violent reputation of Jeffery Watts, the knife wielding attacker. A man by the name of Marvin called in to say he witnessed a man jump into a car seconds after the shooting and speed off from the crime scene. He claims he saw the man carrying a gun. This backs up a witness recently discovered that claims she was in the car when Daniel Norris jumped in and drove off to hide a gun. Johnnie says he does not, and never has remembered shooting twice. Marc calls it a botched crime scene. Brooke calls in to support her Uncle Johnnie.

In the third segment, Marvin called back in to talk more about the second gun there that night. We talked about some of the problems with the jury. Kelly called in. Barbara called in. Ronnie Beck recalls what he remembers happening that night. He said, "These people tried to kill us and they are putting Johnnie in prison for staying alive."

The fourth and final segment we heard from Doug, a DOT employee that works with Johnnie picking up dead animals on the side of the highway. He says that Johnnie is a friend. Lisa called in. Dan called in to talk about how Columbus County needs an enema. Doug was falsely arrested for child molestation after he reported that 3 men attempted to kill him. The arrest warrant was not filled out properly, he was arrested, held in jail until the mistake was discovered and the correct guy was arrested. No apology was ever delivered for the embarrassment and humiliation of being falsely arrested for such a horrible crime. Joanne called in to say enough is enough. Linda Beck spoke in support of all the others in prison for crimes that they never committed. Donnie Beck ended the show with words that unfortunately ring true.

Johnnie Beck - gun shots a second or two a part

Ten years ago this witness testified that he saw Johnnie struggling to get off a second shot. Now he says there was no struggle.

INVESTIGATOR: So it was just a short period of time?
JOHN NORRIS: Yeah..
INVESTIGATOR: It weren't a long...
JOHN NORRIS: No it wasn't one of those deals like.... I was.. I mean it was (snap of fingers) just (snap of fingers again) as quick as you can
INVESTIGATOR: Like that
JOHN NORRIS: It weren't no long drawn out deal. But ah, like I said now, I don't blame the boy for what he done, I don't.

NOVEMBER 19th SHOW.

We began our show with Marc talking about his experience with TSA and how he had his expandable baton confiscated at an airport. We used this as a way to talk about profiling and why government has to feel it necessary to protect us against box cutters and Bic lighters. We learned on September 12, 2001 that a box cutter can't crash a plane into the White House, the passengers rose up and defended themselves.

The second segment of our show was more about profiling. We also talked about the murder of an ASU student in a drug deal gone bad. The victim was an All-American kid that was dealing cocaine to some no-so-nice guys. One of the suspects arrested was a security guard for the University.

The third segment of our show dealt with 911 calls. We had Donna Saylor, a shift supervisor with the 911 Center, call in and talk about her experiences.

Hobbs received a suspended sentence and probation for drug conspiracy and obstruction of justice. Our investigation into similar charges against other officers have warranted prison time of up to 10 years. According to a newspaper article, Hobbs is enrolled at Cape Fear Community College. Great, nothing like a convicted felon mixed in with a bunch of our kids. Hopefully that will be rectified shortly.

The fourth and final segment of the show dealt with last year's murders of two UNCW students and the spin that has been attempted by the administration to convince the public that the murders were not out of the ordinary and could have happened anywhere. We played 911 tapes that came in the night Jessica Faulkner was killed. We presented the fact that the US Department of Education list only 3 campus murders out of the over 6,000 universities and colleges that they kept tabs on in the year prior to the murders at UNCW.

The second segment continued with the discussion of marijuana along with conversation about MS13 gang infiltration. Towards the end of the segment we talked about how a new phenomenon has come about in the past couple of years. Blog sites (what is a blog site) have hit our culture in the same way ipods have. A couple of years ago we first became aware of the power bloggers have in influencing popular opinion with a blog site that was posted anonymously making serious allegations of impropriety and corruption by the top two New Hanover County drug agents, Sid Causey and Gene Pulley, regarding a Tampa, Florida arrest of Jonathan Karpman for trafficking in Ecstasy and Cocaine to those supplying Wilmington club goers and soldiers stationed at near by military bases. Websleuths have been popping up all over the world wide web and many have been extremely helpful, both to the public's concern and to law enforcement. We imagine as more law enforcement officers become aware of the potentials that these sites can offer, more arrests will be made from leads developed by the sometime anonymous sources penned under hard to identify email accounts and/or screen names. We mentioned on the show, the disappearance of Taylor Behl in Richmond, VA and some of the fascinating weblogs about the case. One blog site in particular has been recognized by CourtTV worthy of including the blogger as an important addition to their website. To view Steve Huff's weblog that got CourtTV's attention click here.

SEPTEMBER 3rd SHOW

The entire show was dedicated to the struggle to keep the thin blue line intact. The thin blue line is the line separating us from chaos. We drifted into the politics of the situation but tried to stay away from it best we could.

The first segment covered some of these topics: why are people so desperate (51,000 households in New Orleans do not own automobiles) why it is so important for us to all come together and serve these victims. The world is watching, including those that hate us. Looting being a serious problem.

The third segment we talked took a call about how Bush's arrival looked like a staged photo opportunity. Call about how we can not count on the government to protect us from everything. The call also went into blaming the victims for not being prepared. Tre then followed with the history of the people of New Orleans that are stranded by bringing up the book "Rising Tide" which talked about the Great 1927 Mississippi Flood and how the African Americans suffered unjustly. Marc and Tre got into an argument about the politics of this topic.

The forth and final segment began with some comic relief when Clem called in to talk about his question about how deep to bury something. More talk about how it was a local problem and not the fault of the Feds. At the end of the show we spoke about how to get America back together as it was immediately after 9/11. We ended talking about the law suit against the Onslow County department of Social Services, brought on by the family of poisoned murder victim Kayla Allen.

In our third segment we talked about the Amber Alert issued for missing 12 year old Jodie Collie who apparently ran off with a 27 year old sex offender. We also got into a report of inmates being upset that they were put on a "leash", which is actually a benign tethering device to help safely transport the extremely violent prisoners.

The fourth and final segment went into Johnnie Beck's situation and compared it with Sylvester Smith's release. Rex Gore, the District Attorney of the 13 District, called in to weigh in on the Sylvester Smith controversy.
