NEWS YOU SHOULD BE FOLLOWING

According to 17 year old Allen Strickland, Senator RC Soles built him a house in Tabor City immediately after Strickland's charges for attempting to blackmail Soles were dropped. A few weeks after the young man moved in someone set fire to the house. Arson investigators were called in to collect evidence. By looking at the house it seems that the fire began at the front door of the house spreading upwards. The fire and smoke reached the inside of the house, pretty much making the house a total loss.

Had Strickland, the only occupant of the house at the time, not have been able to escape from the second story window on the back off the house, Strickland might have died. Instead he suffered burns to his hand, arm and the back of his neck.

WWAY attempted to contact Sen Soles to verify the young man's claims and Soles feigned a bad phone connection and hung up on the reporter.

Senator Soles has a reputation in Tabor City as an odd man that chooses the most inappropriate relationships with the most unlikely of characters. Perhaps it is the senator's choice to remain a lifelong bachelor that fuels a good deal of the rumors accusing him of being a homosexual. But gay or not, the senator has been involved in numerous brushes with the law, from federal charges that stemmed from an undercover FBI investigation into political corruption to being mixed up in this latest scandal of arson and perhaps attempted murder.

Young Mr. Strickland's sister told WWAY that Soles had threatened the life of her brother on many occasions.

Johnny Beck

Johnnie Beck, 18, used a hunting rifle to shoot twice into the chest of Jeffery Watts, 19, in the parking lot of a Whiteville Burger King. Watts had just stabbed Johnnie’s twin, Ronnie Beck, three times in the chest and once in the arm, just before turning on Johnnie and slicing off his left thumb. Watts was rumored to be related to Soles.

Thomas Wright

House Representitive Thomas Wright was facing some financial hardship, his mother's home was about to be foreclosed upon. Soles bought the house on July 8, 1998 for $80,000. On March 5, 2001 he sold it to Thomas Wright's wife, Joyce for $128,000.

It was Wright's need for quick money in 2001 that has him in prison today.

N&O article

Back home in Columbus County, R.C. Soles Jr. is known by many names. The Godfather. The Boss. He's Mr. R.C. to a legal client facing a court date, a teenager with cut-off cargo pants and a tattoo on his neck.

In Raleigh, though, he is the dean. First elected in 1968, Soles is thought to be the longest-serving member in the history of the North Carolina legislature. Soles is in his 40th year as a lawmaker -- and seeking another term in the state Senate.

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."
