Ronald E. Hewett

HEWETT JUST ANOTHER JOE CRIMINAL, REALLY?

I wanted to see if Ron Hewett, the suspended Brunswick County Sheriff, would come in the front door or the back. He came in the front, and had to empty his pockets and go thru the metal detector just like the rest of us peons. No more come and go whenever strapped. In fact when Hewett was suspended Thursday evening he was ordered to surrender all county property, including a Glock model 22 and model 27, a Smith & Wesson model 6906, a Beretta Model 96, a Smith & Wesson model 686 (which I believe I saw him pull while interrogating a suspect in a murder investigation), a Remington model 870 shotgun and two rifles, a M14 and an AR15. Monday afternoon Judge Ola Lewis ordered Hewett to surrender all personal weapons to a third party and present the inventory list to the court.

Perhaps with this type of call for disarmament the court has a concern for public safety. Was this why 3 agents stood on guard during the hearing? Couldn't the Bailiffs be trusted? Was there a threat against someone? Or was this part of his super secret government entourage?

Ron Hewett's Million Dollar Estate

Ron Hewett was indicted on 4 Felonies, 2 of which involved embezzlement of the taxpayer's money for using deputies, that were on the clock, to work at his house. According to the affidavits sworn to by several deputies, the work included cutting down 52 trees, mowing grass, planting bushes, plumbing work, security, and other laborious chores. The house and immediate property has a tax value of $498,530. The main house has 3000 square feet, then there is a two story, 3 bedroom bunkhouse. The adjoining property belonging to Hewett has a tax value of approximately $200,000 and is surrounded by family owned vacant property. The paved driveway leading to the estate cost the sheriff $12,000. The few thousand he saved by making county employees do some labor may cost him his freedom, not to mention his $100,000 salary. I wonder how much he owes on his house? He just might need it.

FEDERAL CHARGES NEXT? BOARD OF ELECTIONS?

In reading thru the affidavits there are many potential charges that can be brought against Ron Hewett. Campaign finance violations, witness intimidation, even civil charges for wrongful termination, sexual harassment, and a potential for false arrest. And who knows what it is the Feds are so hot about. The man has a future ahead of him as serious as other dethroned public officials such as Speaker of the House Jim Black and Brunswick, Pender and New Hanover County Representative Thomas Wright. It wouldn't be out of line to imagine Mr. Hewett spending the next couple of years on trial and about 10 years split between State and Federal Prison, which is a bit odd because the most notorious sheriff to come out of Brunswick County, Herman Strong spent only 2 or 3 years in prison in the 80's for providing protection to an international drug smuggling operation.

But everyone is talking about the other shoe, the really big shoe, the J. Edgar Hoover kind of files that will ignite a hell storm of controversy and confusion. So many rumors are floating about, and have been for years, that corruption runs rampant in Brunswick County. And if it is, you just know old Ronnie has documentation. And you know what? Inside Ronnie's paranoid head, he may just be thinking he might be able to turn the tables on everyone. That is if he doesn't succumb to some drugged, drunk episode, causing some self induced event that will end all the drama and suspense. That, of course, would be the end of it all. Who knows, maybe Hewett is the secret agent as he has claimed, with brass at the Pentagon on speed dial and a C-130 to carry him to Andrews for lunch with the CIA. If that's the case, then the next sound you'll hear will definitely be the biggest shoe to ever hit the floor since Paul Bunyan jumped down off of the Big Blue Ox. If not, then just another stumble-bum's self coronated ego crashing into the dirt, deserving a pants down ass whipping in the center of the town square.

God Bless ya Ronald, keep your head up and act like a man.
